Hippy Market Punta Arabí, the largest and oldest market in Ibiza, reopened its doors today in Es Canar alongside FERGUS Style Punta Arabí, welcoming a new season and once again unveiling the creative world that has made it one of the island’s most iconic venues. More than five decades after it began, this celebrated setting brings together crafts, fashion, food and live music every Wednesday in an experience for the whole family that connects with the island’s most authentic, free-spirited side.
This market, which opens every Wednesday and is one of the main cultural attractions in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu, began in 1973 as part of the hippie movement that profoundly shaped the island’s cultural identity, and remains a living part of that legacy today. It attracts residents and visitors in search of the island’s distinctive identity, making it an international reference point for creativity, freedom and alternative culture, as the Hippy Market Punta Arabí vendors’ association, AVEHMPA, explains.
Crafts, gastronomy and live music
Hippy Market Punta Arabí has more than 400 stalls throughout the season, offering everything from handcrafted costume jewellery, accessories, clothing and home décor to natural and organic cosmetics, local liqueurs and sustainable items made from recycled materials. It is an ideal place to find unique pieces to take home and souvenirs that capture the island’s purest essence.
This iconic market runs through the streets of FERGUS Style Punta Arabí, a four-star hotel made up of white villas set among pine groves, offering carefully curated dining through its three restaurants and bars. It brings leisure, gastronomy and Mediterranean living together in one place. The hotel will reopen for the season on 30 April in Es Canar.
Music also remains one of the main attractions of this multicultural venue, with live performances by different artists from the island and a dedicated dining area featuring several food trucks serving a variety of dishes. Together, these make each market day a complete family outing, with activities for children too.
Santa Eulària des Riu Town Council has highlighted the importance of Hippy Market Punta Arabí to the municipality’s tourism offering, particularly in Es Canar, stressing that “it is one of Santa Eulària’s great symbols and a landmark that forms part of our destination’s identity”.
Hippy Market Punta Arabí opens every Wednesday from 10:00 to 18:00 during April, May and October. From June to September, its opening hours are 10:00 to 19:00.
