We surprised Sebastián working on his materials in the midst of the bustle of Hippy Market, he is located at the beginning of the Artisans Street and from afar you can see that he loves what he does and that he is undoubtedly very participatory in telling the world how great it is to be a craftsman. What has been a craftsman for?

Although Sebastián arrived at Hippy Market in 2014, he has been pursuing this beautiful profession of being a craftsman for 16 years, and along the way he has worked with materials such as silver, bronze, alpaca, or leather in other parts of the world.

What does he produce, how, where, and what materials does he use?

He works with leather that he cuts, braids, or does whatever is necessary, as well as with metals such as bronze, silver, or alpaca, and with stones brought from all over the world. He shows us stones from Peru, Canada, or Mexico.

Constant learning is required in their profession, so they are starting to make vests as a new product and, as one of their most traditional creations, they teach us about their crowns.

Although he works with materials from other places, he creates in Ibiza, all his works are made on the island, feeling its energy, believing and betting on local products.

What is the Hippy Market for Sebastián?

For him, it is a very fascinating place that brings together people from all over the world and very good music, from many different styles, a great combination of cultures. The most important thing for him at Hippy Market is the craftsmanship, the handicraft stalls, he doesn’t like the industrial ones much although he fully respects the merchants. For Sebastián, there should be more spaces opened around the world like the Street of Craftsmen in Hippy Market, as they are arts that are lost and that are not found again, something from all life that we should never lose.

Where is craftsmanship today?

Today, with craftsmanship, people are really starting to realize what it is, there is a small awakening about its value, just like with food and organic food.

Many people prefer to pay a little more knowing that what they buy does not support the industrial, exploitation or resale.

What does it mean to be a craftsman? Is it a way of life?

When you are a craftsman, you dedicate your whole life to this, it’s a way of life, you get up and practice every day. You work every day between seven and twelve hours, whether at home, at Hippy Market, or wherever.

Don’t miss the street of the craftsmen, you can see them work live!
